No, roofing nailers cannot be used for siding. Roofing and siding nailers may look similar, but they use different nails. To ensure safe and stable nailing, use the corresponding nail gun for the job.
The nail size you use depends on the type of framing gun you’re using and the size and/or brand of nails your gun requires. Framing nail guns commonly employ 16d nails. Typically, your nail gun will list compatible nails in the specifications.
