FAQs About Air Handlers

Air handlers, also known as air handling units (AHU), are a crucial component of any efficient HVAC system and are primarily responsible for circulating conditioned air throughout your space. Ranging from 75-ton to 120-ton options, our inventory of air handler units for rent are designed to work alongside your HVAC system, like a furnace or air conditioner, to ensure that your space stays comfortable year-round. Air handlers are commonly used in large, expansive spaces like sporting facilities, warehouses, factory floors and data centers. This heavy-duty air handler for rent is electric powered and produces a powerful airflow of up to 24,000 cubic feet per minute (CFM). Trust United Rentals’ air handlers for all your HVAC needs.

FAQs
How do air handling units work?

Air handlers typically work by bringing in outside air and moving it through the furnace or air conditioner then supplying it to the rest of your building through a system of ducts, cooling your space. These ducts then return the air to the air handling unit, where it is exchanged for the air that has just cycled through, and the process is repeated.

What size air handler do I need?

When determining the size of your air handler, it is important to consider the size of the space you are trying to cool or heat. This involves careful calculations and understanding of British thermal units (BTUs). Typically, for every 500 BTUs needed, 1 ton of air conditioning or heating capacity is required. Need more help? What is the difference between fan coil units (FCU) and air handling units?

An air handling unit is a crucial component of an HVAC system and is responsible for cooling and distributing air throughout the designated space through ductwork. Alternatively, a fan coil unit (FCU) operates independently and is used to circulate existing air within a smaller area. However, FCUs can also be incorporated into larger HVAC systems for added efficiency.
