Air handlers typically work by bringing in outside air and moving it through the furnace or air conditioner then supplying it to the rest of your building through a system of ducts, cooling your space. These ducts then return the air to the air handling unit, where it is exchanged for the air that has just cycled through, and the process is repeated.
When determining the size of your air handler, it is important to consider the size of the space you are trying to cool or heat. This involves careful calculations and understanding of British thermal units (BTUs). Typically, for every 500 BTUs needed, 1 ton of air conditioning or heating capacity is required. Need more help? An air handling unit is a crucial component of an HVAC system and is responsible for cooling and distributing air throughout the designated space through ductwork. Alternatively, a fan coil unit (FCU) operates independently and is used to circulate existing air within a smaller area. However, FCUs can also be incorporated into larger HVAC systems for added efficiency.
