At United Rentals, our direct-fired heater rentals offer the features you need to control the temperature of ventilated indoor spaces such as warehouses or manufacturing plants and outdoor spaces such as construction sites or arenas. Direct-fired heaters, also known as salamander heaters or torpedo heaters, are highly efficient and heat fresh air through direct contact with an open flame. Perfect for warming big areas with plenty of ventilation, our fleet of direct heater rentals includes propane, natural gas, dual-fuel, electric and configurations. Our direct heater rental models offer up to 1.5 million BTUs and include features such as wheels for portability and built-in thermostats. FAQs
Are there any ventilation requirements for using direct-fired heaters?

Yes, there are ventilation requirements for direct-fired heaters. They should only be used in large, well-ventilated spaces because direct heating creates carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless gas that can be very dangerous if inhaled.

How efficient are direct-fired heaters compared to indirect-fired heaters?

In direct-fired heating, 100% of the fuel burned is used to supply warmth, making these rental models highly efficient. With an indirect-fired heater, only about 80% of the fuel burned heats the air, so they are less efficient.

What types of fuel can be used in direct-fired heaters?

The type of fuel that can be used in a direct-fired heater varies depending on the individual model. Most direct fired heater models use propane or natural gas, and many configurations offer dual-fuel capabilities.
