This depends on the type of heater. A natural gas heater can run continuously if connected to a gas line, while a propane heater runs until the propane tank is empty. Calculate how much propane a heater will use by dividing its consumption rate by its BTU rating. Then, calculate how long the heater will run on one tank by dividing the tank size by the hourly gallon usage. For example, a heater with a BTU rating of 100,000 and a consumption rate of 91,500 BTUs per gallon of propane uses 0.915 gallons per hour (91,500 ÷ 100,000 = 0.915). A 30-gallon propane tank would fuel the heater for 32.8 hours (30 ÷ .915 = 32.8). To reduce safety risks, do not leave heaters on unattended.
Yes, some propane heaters can be used indoors; however, this depends entirely on the type of propane heater you are considering. Be sure to check with the equipment manufacturer to ensure your propane heater is rated for indoor use.
