Do portable air conditioners need to be vented?

Yes, most portable air conditioners need to be vented, and most users vent the hot air outdoors using ducts. If venting is not an option in your environment, United Rentals offers a water-cooled portable unit that does not require venting.

Do you have to drain portable air conditioners?

Most models require draining or water removal. The smaller units, like this 5-ton mobile AC unit, have an internal pump with safety float for condensate water removal. Other models, like this small 3-ton AC unit, come with a 3-gallon condensate tank with an auto shut-off setting for when the tank is full.
