FAQs About Dies
United Rentals’ impressive collection of plumbing, pipe and conduit equipment for rent features dies commonly used for various pipe work. Our range of equipment features a wide variety of dies for rent, ranging from 1/8-inch pipe threader dies to 4-inch ratchet threader die heads. Threading dies are commonly used to cut or replace external or internal threads on pipes for maintenance, preventing leaks and damage. We offer universal threader die heads, to use with NPT or BSPT threads and other piping materials, as well as ratchet threader die heads, ideal for manual threading in narrow areas. Additionally, we have pipe die sets, complete with gauge dies of 1-2 inches, making them perfect for maintenance work with varying pipe sizes.

The operation of a pipe threader varies based on the exact pipe threading tool used. Typically pipe threaders are used directly on the ends of a pipe to cut threads for connection or repair. It is recommended to consider the exact measurements of your project before threading your pipe.
Pipe threading dies are designed to cut threads into the pipe, creating leakproof seals when two pipes are joined. But using a sealant for additional protection is recommended for proper pipe maintenance and increased lifespan of your tools. For more pipe sealing guidance, contact one of our equipment experts.
Tapered pipe threads offer a stronger, more durable seal, making them more effective at preventing leaks. Tapered pipe threads are commonly used on water pipes in various plumbing applications.
