The challenge was to repair or replace the leaking vessel whilst maintaining production. BA steel production company identified a  leak in a vessel collecting waste water and acid within their pickling unit. The challenge was to repair or replace the leaking vessel whilst maintaining production. United Rentals was asked to provide a temporary storage solution to bypass the existing pickling acid vessel.

Solution:
United Rentals designed an integrated solution to bypass a part of the production process.

  • Four Double Wall Poly Tanks were installed to store the pickling acid.
  • Over 500m of stainless steel flanged hoses were used to ensure the safe transfer of the acid into the Poly Tanks.
  • A 2” Air Operated Polypropylene Pump removed liquid from the onsite pickling acid regenerator so the acid could be reused.
  • A further two 2” Air Operated Polypropylene Pumps provided contingency back-up in case of problems with the customer’s own pumps.

Benefits:
Thanks to the United Rentals bypass solution the customer was able to continue steel production, thereby benefitting from reduced time pressure whilst assessing the repair or replacement of their leaking vessel.
Cost savings were significant due to the lack of downtime or lost production, coupled with the reassurance that they had a safe solution and a contingency plan in place.
