Commercial drivers transport an estimated 11 billion tons of cargo every year, which makes up over 70 percent of all of America’s freight. For that reason, being able to properly secure cargo on a commercial vehicle is of the utmost importance for professional drivers.

Ultimately, it will always be the driver’s responsibility for ensuring that all cargo is properly stored on their vehicles. Those who fail to secure their cargo run the risk of experiencing potentially disastrous consequences. Cargo that shifts, falls off a vehicle, or is improperly loaded can cause a change in the vehicle’s center-of-gravity and lead to the driver losing control of the vehicle.

In this training course, we will detail the basics of cargo handling and provide techniques for safe and efficient loading/unloading. We will also discuss ways to secure cargo and keep it safe during operations, as well as how to handle and documents hazardous materials.

By the end of this training session, you should be able to:

·       Know how to safely secure, cover, and load/unload cargo on your vehicle

·       Understand the basic theory of weight distribution

·       Identify ways to prevent theft and ensure the safety and security of your cargo

·       Properly handle and document hazardous cargo

This training program focuses on the needs of the “end user”, and upon successful completion, will provide a certificate and a wallet card.
