Performing work in confined spaces is potentially dangerous, which is why it’s important to fully plan and prepare in case of a rescue, based on your specific worksite. As part of your rescue plan, become familiar with the confined spaces in your worksite and have the necessary tools in place if a rescue is required. Additionally, prior to confined space entry, it is important to clean and clear the confined space, if necessary, to eliminate hazards. United Rentals proudly offers resources on confined space rescue equipment and confined space ventilation.
Confined space attendants are usually put in place to reduce fatalities and injuries in confined spaces. A confined space attendant is expected to understand and monitor the confined space and its hazards, as well as know how to operate a rescue procedure. Confined space attendants are expected to assess and control confined space access, as well as monitor for risk and danger.
Confined space tripods act as an anchor, fitted with winches and retractable lines, and allow for confined space rescue and retrieval. A confined space tripod is designed to have the legs positioned over the confined space entrance so it can raise and lower an operator or materials.
