FAQs About Chillers & Air Handlers
United Rentals’ chiller rental fleet includes individual units ranging from 60 tons to 500 tons of air-cooling power. Air chiller systems can be used as stand-alone HVAC chiller solutions or as a part of multiunit configurations to meet virtually any air-cooling demand. We also carry the largest portable cooling towers available anywhere in the world, with individual units ranging from 60 tons to 3,000 tons. We offer a vast selection of other air conditioning equipment options, including air-cooled chillers, air handlers, heat exchangers and water-cooled chillers. United Rentals is the one-stop shop for your air systems needs. Learn more in our FAQ section below.
An air chiller system is an industrial refrigeration system that cools fluids and works with a facility’s air handler system. A chiller system includes an evaporator, condenser, compressor and expansion valve. A chiller HVAC removes the heat and pumps condensed cool air inside.
An air conditioner dehumidifies and removes heat from an area, and the cooling is done with a simple refrigerator system. A chiller removes heat from a liquid through a vapor-compressed or absorption refrigeration cycle.
There are two types of air chillers: air-cooled and water-cooled. Air-cooled chillers are usually outside and are made of condenser coils cooled by fan-driven air. Water-cooled chillers are usually inside, and heat is carried by recirculating water to a heat sink.
